Mobility in Fredericksburg: Improve your workout by mobilizing

At RARE CrossFit, we start each class with mobility in order to get loosened up for the Workout of the day. If you have been with us for any amount of time, you probably have also heard us mention Kelly Starrett and his website www.mobilitywod.com. Kelly is well known throughout the CrossFit community. He is a coach, physical therapist, author, and speaker, who has revolutionized how athletes think about human movement and athletic performance. Kelly has a great book, “Becoming a Supple Leopard” which is packed full of great information! We have a copy in the office, and often reference it for mobility options relating to specific movements. If you have had the privilege of sitting on the ground with a lacrosse ball in your buttocks for several minutes, you can thank Mr. Starrett for that flat tire feeling. You can also thank him for many other hurt so good mobility maneuvers you have already done.

In Kelly’s book he promises to “improve your athletic performance, extend your athletic career, treat body stiffness and achy joints, and rehabilitate injuries—all without having to seek out a coach, doctor, chiropractor, physical therapist, or masseur. Tuesday’s Workout

A1) Push Press 8,7,6,5; rest 30 sec
A2) Bent Over DB Row 6-8 x 4; rest 30 sec
A3) Farmers Walk 30m x 3; rest 90 sec

B) 14 min amrap:
Run 400m
30 DU
10 DB PJ
15 sec side plank/side

-Rest 3 min

14 min amrap:
AB/Row 12 cals
10 push ups
15 sit ups
